What Causes Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is mainly caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or other sources such as tanning machines in the solarium. UV light is divided into three different wavelength bands: UVA, UVB, and UVC. UVB rays are the cause of basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. UVA is also a cause of skin cancer, especially melanoma. Tanning beds send UVA at high doses and may increase the risk of melanoma.

Damage caused by UV rays that accumulate over time. Prolonged exposure to sunlight for years will cause damage to skin tissue, even without the need to burn the skin.

Research shows that the destruction of skin cells due to the sun can start from childhood. Individuals who continue to receive excessive sun exposure without adequate protection in adulthood can cause damage to skin cells and cause skin cancer.

Skin cancer can also occur in areas of the skin that are not normally exposed to sunlight. Genetic descent can play a role in this.

Anyone can suffer from skin cancer, regardless of their skin color. You should be careful if you:
- have lots of moles

- have pigment spots (keratosis diesel)
- have a family history of melanoma
- work outdoors, under long periods of exposure to sunlight
- have a history of experiencing sunburn, especially skin peeling after severe sunburn
- has sensitive skin that is flammable and does not change color to tanned
- have red or blond hair with bright eye color
- have a weakened immune system due to HIV / AIDS or after an organ transplant
- have very sensitive skin, such as newly burned, wounded or weak skin due to the treatment of other skin conditions, such as psoriasis treatment and certain eczema creams
- are exposed to toxic chemicals constantly
