Various kinds of Skin Cancer
How many different types of Skin Cancer?
Skin cancer is named according to the type of affected cell. There are three major types of skin cancers: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma (non-melanoma skin cancer), and melanoma. Other types of skin cancers, such as malignant skin tumors arising from the sweat glands and hair follicles, are not so common.Basal cell carcinoma (KSB)
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common and most easily treated skin cancer. This type of cancer includes about 60% of all skin cancer cases encountered. This usually occurs in people over 40 years of age. Most BCCs appear on the head, nose, neck, and upper body. Basal cell carcinoma usually begins as a pearl-shaped lump on the face, ear or neck. If developed in the chest or back, this cancer looks like a scaly or dry skin. This part may bleed or become ulcerated, then heal and recur again. And can recur in the same place on the skin.Basal cell carcinomas usually develop slowly and almost never spread elsewhere. However, if left untreated, this cancer will develop into the skin and damage nearby structures. This can complicate the treatment actions that must be done.
Karsinoma sel skuamosa (KSS)
About 30% of skin cancer cases are squamous cell carcinomas and most of them occur over the age of 50 years. This cancer is usually observed as a red nodule or ulcer and generally appears in areas of skin exposed to sunlight such as head, neck, hands, and arms. This cancer can also occur in the thighs and legs. SCC that occurs in the lips or ears is more aggressive and more potential to spread.Skin Cancer Melanoma
Although melanoma covers only 10% of all skin cancer cases encountered, it is the most dangerous form of skin cancer and is responsible for most deaths from skin cancer. Melanoma cells can develop rapidly and spread to other body parts such as the lungs, liver or brain, even at an early stage though.Melanoma occurs in Asians usually develops in areas not exposed to sunlight, such as soles of feet, palms, nail tips or mucous membranes, etc. Melanoma can form and look like a new pigment to the skin. Melanoma can also start as a change in the size, shape or color of a mole or skin spots. This process can take several weeks to several months. Melanoma usually has irregular shapes, mess, and uneven colors.
Melanoma appears on the surface of the skin and looks like ordinary dirt. Melanoma can grow rapidly and cause lesions around it. You should immediately consult a doctor as soon as you see the characteristics mentioned above.
