Warts are a disease in humans caused by papilloma virus group. This virus usually causes different diseases in different parts of the body. Warts usually occur on the hands, arms, and legs. Warts often look like small rough cauliflower. Periungual warts occur around the nail. Flat warts, on the face, knees, and elbows on young children and women, are slightly embossed and colored like meat. Genital warts on the genitals and rectal areas, often transmitted through sexual contact. Plantar warts under the feet are usually transmitted when barefoot. Small filiform warts like hair strands.

How common are warts?


Warts are a fairly common disease, especially in people aged 10-20 years. Most warts (up to 65%) heal themselves within 2 years without therapy. Even so, there are cases where warts recur quite frequently and you need to go to a doctor to treat it.

Warts that do not cause pain do not require therapy. Treatment depends on the location of warts. Warts on the arms, hands, and feet can be treated with the salicylic acid solution. This solution is given to warts every night and every morning until the skin dies. Foot warts can be treated with 40% salicylic acid plaster. Flat warts are often treated with a skin peel using a tretinoin or 5-fluorouracil cream. Genital warts almost always require a doctor's examination on both partners. Therapy usually uses an exfoliating agent. If this therapy does not work, your doctor may give you a stronger drug, such as imiquimod cream or trichloroacetic acid.

Other therapies such as freezing, injection of warts with drugs that trigger the immune system, wart cutting operations, and burning warts with lasers or electricity.

  3. Call your doctor if your warts do not improve after several weeks of therapy

In addition, to prevent warts, you should:

  1. Do not bite your nails. Warts more often appear on the damaged skin. Biting the skin around the nail opened the door for the virus
  2. Do not scratch warts. Digging can spread the virus
  3. Skin care. To avoid spreading the virus, do not brush, cut or shave the area around warts.
